Self-published comic zine / eddition of 6 / 25.5 × 14.5 cm
Children of the Maize is a small self-published collection of short absurd comics loosely based on historical, mythological, and archaeological facts about the Maya civilization. Each story playfully reinterprets a real reference, weaving together different times and cultural layers. Elements of mythology and history collide with contemporary phrases, literary quotes, and popular culture, creating anachronistic and humorous narratives.
The publication consists of six one-page comics printed as postcards and gathered under a single cover. Images are assembled through hand-cut fragments of real photograhs of glyphs and hieroglyphs. Each copy was signed and hand-assembled as a limited edition.
